The Fountains of Rome

by John Hamilton

/

about

One of the things that surprised me about the fountains of Rome is how they became gathering places at night. Whether the Trevi, or the Piazza Navona, or the at the Pantheon, there were always people milling about. And buskers entertaining — guitar players, jugglers, even opera singers (yes).

The fountains are communal, almost sacred spaces. There’s a good deal of research that the sound of flowing water can alter the state of our brain — make us more relaxed, peaceful.

I tried to make this piece sound flowing and relaxing. And I look forward to playing it at the Pantheon fountain next time I’m in Rome. ;-)
