Sunrise, St. Chapelle

by John Hamilton

/

lyrics

I can only imagine what sunrise at St. Chapelle is like. Visitors are not allowed at that hour.

But anyone who has visited this “chapel” will likely have experienced an impression very similar to a sunrise. To get to the upper chamber, you must pass through a dark, claustrophobic lower level and a winding staircase. Which then opens on to the majestic and breathtaking light of the once-royal chapel.

The blue-tinted light and the illusion that the walls are stained glass are, at first, disorienting. Until you can see what they really are: an inexplicable wonder.
