It is a year ago this week that we had to put our 13-year old Lab down. I still have, what must be, auditory hallucinations. I imagine I hear him bark his greeting when I pull into the driveway. I imagine I hear his nails on the hardwood floor when I wake in the middle of the night.

Some folks will see this as foolishness, others will get it. When you take a puppy, or a dog, into your home you make an unspoken promise you will take care of them. They put their lives in our hands and in return, we get unconditional love. It’s not a fair bargain. We get way more than we deserve.
