Sunday, Central Park West

about

I have three distinct relationships with New York defined by age.

When I moved there out of college, it was to play music. So I got to know the city at night, the world of artists and free spirits, who only came out at night to enter smoky clubs, and put themselves on the line, lay their souls bare, on stage. A couple of them actually made it to the Big Time.

Later, when I worked in advertising, It was Laguardia Airport, frenzied cab rides, boardrooms with views that stretched for miles, and hotel rooms that were the loneliest places on earth.

Now, I go back as a tourist. There is no New Yorker left in me. But with these eyes, I can see the City is still the most amazing, multiethnic, diverse, frenetic, electric place in America, if not the planet.
